Is there something wrong with my 'minimalism'?

With books, music, movies, food, clothes and even friends, I tend to follow the same philosophy. I'm extremely experimental, and am extremely fussy. When I believe something suits my true self then I will become extremely enthusiastic about it. However, this is rare, so essentially I can be eating the same lunch every day for six months, listening to the same band for years etc. I yearn for the day I can be proud of myself and my three bands, five books and the like, instead of comparing myself to those who own thousands of songs and think it's 'too little'. My parents would freak if I 'threw out money' like that, so right now I'm living in a sea of unnecessary objects. It's making me embarrassed to share my tastes. Where should I go from here?
