How can I explain to my dad about buying the right beginner guitar?

I've been researching and correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was a good choice to start off with a Fender Standard Stratocaster, a guitar I could stay with for the longest time. My dad insisted in buying a Squier and I gave in, choosing to buy a Fender Squier Vintage Modified Telecaster Custom (which is roughly 400, but I have found one for half the price) and he tells me the best choice would be to buy the Fender SE Special Strat with Squier SP-10 Amp Value Pack. I really don't want to get that. I know my dad's worrying about the price, but I've been trying to get a good guitar at the cheapest price, not a bad guitar at the cheapest price possible.
