Is it possible to get Sony Vegas on a Vaio Windows XP Home Edition?

Ok well me and my friends want to make a video with sony vegas but i have window xp home edition and it say i need xp sp 2/3, vista, ir 7 and im like what?!?! and i don't know if a before version is compatible with my computer or do i need to upgrade? and if i do need to do i need to pay and i want to do this legally thank you.
